Cold water is the way to go when washing (most) of your clothes

Think that hot water makes your clothes ‘cleaner’? Think again! Here’s why cold water is actually better for washing most of your clothing items (and some instances where it isn’t).

Not only is cold water better for the environment, but many of the beneficial active ingredients in washing detergent work best in cold water! Stains such as grass, makeup, blood, and sweat also remove best in cold water. In fact, warmer water is worse for the latter as blood and sweat can set into the fabric even more. What about delicate fabrics (lace and silk) and dark, colorful fabrics? Toss them into your cold-water cycle too! Cold-water washing also means clothing is less likely to shrink or fade, and the cooler temperature can also reduce wrinkles.

However, cold water isn’t suitable for knitted and synthetic (spandex, nylon, polyester, and rayon) fabrics. If you’re looking to kill bacteria and germs, hot water is the better way to go.

Suds Launderette provides a respectful, courteous, and personal laundry service. We pay close attention to care instructions and never mix your clothes in with someone else’s. You can be at ease knowing your precious items are being taken care of and washed thoroughly!
